multiXtens

multiXtens is a versatile, high-resolution extensometer. Thanks to special sensor arms, it can be used for tensile, compression, flexure, and cyclic tests. multiXtens is used mainly for tests on plastics, composites, elastomers, and hard foam, as well as for tests on metals or fiber-reinforced composites.

  • Can be used up to specimen break, even with high loads and brittle specimen material
  • Highest level of precision even when measurement displacement is high (up to 700 mm) and can be used with temperature chambers

  • Maximum error ±1 μm in the differential displacement measurement between two measurement points in the range of 20 μm to 200 μm, fully fulfilling the additional requirement stipulated by ISO 527-1 (2011)
  • multiXtens is already calibrated from a measurement travel of 20 µm in Class 0.5
  • The low drag force and the ability to adjust the contact force of the sensor arms as needed means you can test sensitive specimens reliably and with traceability
  • Deformation of the specimen is recorded in the elastic and plastic deformation range throughout the entire test
  • Automatic measurement of the space between the specimen grips with subsequent centering of the multiXtens measurement carriage
  • multiXtens is suitable for cyclic tests
  • Compression and flexure tests can be performed by simply changing the sensor arms
  • Tiltable knife edges prevent damage to the sensor arms and knife edges at specimen break
  • The knife edges can be set for round or flat specimens through simple rotation
  • Special knife edge geometry makes multiXtens suitable for both round and flat specimens
  • A third measurement-carriage enables fully automatic fitting of transverse strain and fine strain extensometers to multiXtens. This is very important for accurate determination of Youngs Modulus and determination of r- and n-values, as well as Poisson's ratio
  • The sensor arms can be changes without tools and are automatically recognized by multiXtens.
  • Operation with temperature chambers possible using suitable sensor arms

The guide system has two integrated measurement carriages that can be moved independent of one another. Each measurement carriage has a complete measurement carriage drive and a microprocessor system, which records and prepares the status and measurement data of the measuring heads. Furthermore, it controls the measurement carriages/measuring head drives and monitors their safety limit values.

Even the transmission of measurement, control, and status signals between the measurement carriages, measuring heads, and central measurement and control unit is handled by the microprocessor system.

The knife edges can be easily interchanged and are inserted in the mechanical measuring heads from the front. The type used depends on the type of test, the required temperature range, and the geometric dimensions of the testing system.
